« Co-leader of the Chicros, Turzi’s keyboard player, Syd Matters’ drummer for one show; bass player for the Argentinian Axel Krieger, guitarist in Zombie Zombie for one song, regular DJ… As if this wasn’t enough, he’s just founded the band Trinité with Turzi (Gunther Rock) and a mad scientist with an extreme faith: Roadies
One day, whilst on tour, his drunkenness lead him to catch his fingers in a metal door: making it impossible for him to exerce his art.
Unable to play guitar or bass, there his is living as a recluse with as his only company a ton of LPs and 300grammes of synth. Unable to stay in one place more than 5 minutes, he demos kilometers of songs for the Chicros.
Seeing the infatuation of his entourage (Pan European Recording, his wife and brother) for these songs, it become obvious that these songs will become a record that, for the first time, will be his own.
So things gestate and grow, and slowly but surely Painkillers & Alcohol is brought into being. It is not a summary of his experiences, but a retracing of certain of them, with the sole restraint being that of only using his synth-sampler; his guitar henceforth left in the rubbish bin, like some vulgar relic (and that’s just fine.) » Romain Turzi
